Chapter 16

Leia

It has now been a week since we have been here. Thankfully, Izola has a never-ending supply of raw meat for me to eat, and that has helped with my eating habits. Garrett also seems happier now that I’m eating more regularly.

“Have you figured anything out yet?” I ask as I try not to sound obvious about what we are planning. I don’t know how else to ask either.

His green eyes find mine, and he silently nods his head. “Soon.”

I take a deep breath as I lay on the bed. “It really sicks to not have our mate link readily accessible.”

He huffs out a breath, “It was genius on her part, though. I just wish it wasn’t like this. I miss hearing you in my head, even though you are right here beside me. It’s just something I’m used to.” His head falls to the side, and he looks me over, his gaze full of desire. “I also miss other things.”

I laugh, “Of course you would.” I rub a hand across my stomach, now fully showing. “Garrett, I can’t give birth here. She’ll take our baby.”

He raises up and then lays back on the bed again. “I’m not fully sure how much of that is a legit threat.”

I look at him, my eyebrows scrunching in confusion, “What do you mean? You heard her when she told us over a month ago about the whole join my army or else speech.”

He closes his eyes and focuses. I wait, but nothing happens.

After a few seconds, I start to feel tingly in my mind, which feels like a reconnection. He opens his eyes and then makes a motion toward my head. I motion with my hand toward my head as well and mouth the words, ‘you want me to try?’ back to him. He shakes his head vigorously ‘yes’.

I close my eyes and focus with all of my strength. I imagine the cord that ties us together binding tighter and growing stronger. With each steady breath, I watch as it ripples and shows that we are connected. I grab hold of it and give it a yank. I can feel that he is indeed connected on the other end.

Leia.

I open my eyes, and he is staring at me with intense green eyes. I smile, knowing that I can hear him.

We can’t let on that we fixed this. I have wondered all week how strong that spell really was. We are strong alphas, after all.

I breathe a sigh of relief. Oh, thank goodness. I’m so glad this is fixed. Now, how are we getting out of here?

He looks toward the door, ensuring no one has appeared in the doorway while we were caught up in the moment.

I overheard her talking to Daniel the other day while she was chopping up the deer. It’s about the ancient evil and giving him back his power. Daniel doesn’t want her to be the replacement body for his mate and we may be able to use that to escape.
